Among the early signs that your female has been pollinated is that her bracts become larger. Bracts are small, leaf-like structures that protect the female’s reproductive parts. These are the sites from which the flowering buds appear. Do not confuse the bracts with calyxes.
HOW TO AVOID POLLINATION OF YOUR FEMALE PLANTS
Pollination of your female cannabis plants will make them produce seeds and spend less energy on producing quality buds. But when you recognise the signs of pollination early, you can avoid putting time and resources into a poor harvest.
Male plants won’t show hairs at these nodes, but will develop little sacs of pollen. These pollen sacs will look like little balls. These balls can appear on their own or in clusters, depending how far into the pre-flowering stage the plant is. At some later stage of growth, the pollen sacs will burst open, spilling the pollen and possibly pollinating your females.
Another indication of pollination can be the colour of her pistil hairs. When a female has been pollinated, the previously white hairs will soon shrivel and become darker.
Cannabis growers are trying to grow sinsemilla (seedless buds). A few seeds won’t hurt anything. But if you have very seedy buds, it significantly lowers your yields because plants are putting all their energy into making seeds. The buds also tend to be less potent if they are full of seeds. Seeds are not the end of the world, but it’s good to avoid if possible.
high stress – high temperatures, light leaks, inconsistent light schedules, as well as other types of major stress can cause a healthy plant to hermie, though some plants/strains are more susceptible than others
Hermies can be caused by many things, including…
The bagseed gamble… When you find seeds in your buds, that usually means that the buds were pollinated by accident. Seeds that were accidentally created are suspect. It could be that a stray male plant caused them, which means there were no hermies and you will get about half male and half female plants. But accidental seeds could also be the result of herming by an indiscriminate grower, and that means you have feminized seeds, sort of. Some of them may produce pollen on you just like their parents. Growing with bagseed is a big gamble… you never know what you’re going to get.
Yet there are good and bad breeders out there, and with good breeders, you have a very low chance of running into cannabis sex problems.
UH OH . lmao not true Jorges 🙂 how are feminizied seeds made? thats right spraying Colloidal Silver ( a silver infused water) onto a female plant. the silver causes the plant to produce male hormones in the sections sprayed thus producing a single genetic parent . i use this method to seed out one branch when i need more seeds 🙂 works every time.
As a grower of both Photo and auto cannabis plants, I dont care for genetics that still have the Hermie trait.. IMO That’s "bad" genetics, and Ill Cull any non forced Hermie plant that is in my garden.. yes it true cannabis will grow male balls very late in bloom for natural reasons.. yes I grow seedless cannabis and for that reason I must "not" use bad genetics that will Hermie!! Same if I was to breed out a auto or photo, I would "never" allow my genetics to ever Hermie and be sold.. This is why "testing" is so important.. to make sure the genetics you grow are legit.. if they Hermie IMO the breeder needs to get that sorted!!
In 2016 no excuse. Also If you grow Hermie seeds Those plants will also most likely be a boy/girl.. I like my beans AKC certified! 81173
hawkeyes those girls are very pretty.. Did you by chance have any light pin holes in your room? they are photos right? you never know these days. i see those sativa leaves!!
Sometimes they put out a few male flowers no stress needed, it just happens.
In my growing experience I have had this happen several times and here’s why in my opinion; A female cannabis plant has one goal which is to flower and reproduce. This plant is amazing because it can adapt, or change depending on the environment in which it lives. Sometimes a female plant that does not have access to male flowers and there pollen will turn into a hermaphrodite in order to reproduce. This means that the female will produce male flowers and pollinate it self to continue it’s life cycle. One year I grew a big bushy haze hybrid that was in full bloom when I noticed a couple of male flowers had appeared. I tried to remove all the flowers but some pollination did occur which resulted in seeds that were 100% female. Stress is a big factor on cannabis and is usually the reason for hermaphrodites and male flowers to pop out on female sensi plants. Thanks for letting me share my experience here, peace and good vibs!!
1. somewhere is a Male Plant (can be Pollen over miles whit wind)
2. as a Member sayed Stress can be a reason too (dual sex)
3. Instabil genetiks mostly fem seed can be dual sex whtiout doing enything wrong
Pretty much this. You guys seemed to be missing his general question to which the answer is no. It is not possible to get a seed without pollen. All of the other statements about stress induced pollen production from hermies and male pollen travelling from a long distance is true don’t get me wrong, but in this case I agree with Jorge.
