Many weed dispensaries and other cannabis businesses across Oregon will have a selection of seeds for sale. They’ll also be able to offer advice about which strains and varieties grow well in the local climate. If you’re after something specific, however, you’re much more likely to find it online.
However, here are a few weed varieties we recommend if you want to make the most of Oregon’s spectacular climate and nourishing soil:
Can you buy marijuana seeds in Oregon?
Originally developed in northern California, OG Kush has become a popular choice for both amateur and professional growers across the world. It makes an exceptionally smart choice for home-growers who might have limited space available, as plants tend to be compact in stature yet loaded with plump, resin-rich buds.
One small note of caution; these beauties will grow prodigiously if left unchecked. So to keep your plants within a manageable size (a must if you want to keep them out of sight), we recommend using SCROG (Screen of Green) techniques.
Expect indoor plants to grow to about 60cm to 1 meter in height, while outdoor plants get up to around 1.8 meters. In terms of yields, your indoor plants will produce as much as 400 grams per m2, while plants grown outside can manage up to 450 grams. Flowering times are between 8 to 11 weeks, after which you can enjoy the calming, gently psychedelic effects of this highly enjoyable, fragrant, and sweet-tasting treat.
Since the introduction of the law, adults aged 21 and older are allowed to possess and use recreational cannabis, which can be obtained from one of over 650 dispensaries, state-wide.
If you are 21 or older, and are in a private residence or property, you are allowed to possess up to 8 ounces of usable cannabis (i.e. dried flower). All other possession limits remain the same compared to public possession limits mentioned above.
Cannabis law in Oregon
For medical users looking to grow medical marijuana or those assigning someone to grow cannabis on their behalf, must provide the local authorities with the name of the grower and the relevant grow site location. One registered grow site address is permitted per patient.
Once approved, medical patients with permission can cultivate more plants than recreational users.

In Oregon, driving with any amount of THC in your system could get you a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. However, because THC can stay in your system for up to 30 days, it makes it hard to prove whether or not you smoked prior to or while driving. The best way to avoid this is to not smoke and drive at all. If you are caught driving under the influence of marijuana you could face jail time and fines as well as a suspended driver’s license or the judge could order an ignition interlock device installed in your vehicle at your cost. Oregon has taken a hard stance on this and considers any presence of THC to be evidence of impairment.
Gifting of recreational cannabis between two adults 21 years of age or older is permitted, but only if the gifted amount does not exceed possession limits and the gift-giver does not accept any financial consideration.
Under Measure 91, licensed retailers are authorized to dispense marijuana to adults 21 years of age or older between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 pm local time. However, store owners have the right to operate at any time within these hours, so be sure to check ahead of time to confirm the exact opening and closing times.
