  • Reduced inflammation and pain
  • Relieving stress, depression, and anxiety
  • Better overall wellness

Potential Side Effects Of CBD Oil For Cats

Cat owners should be aware of the possible side effects of giving CBD oil to their pets. You can consult a vet to make sure you stick to the recommended dosage to prevent some of these side effects. The following is a list of probable side effects of CBD oil for your cat:

  • Drowsiness
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Low blood pressure
  • Mouth dryness

How To Choose A Suitable CBD Oil For Your Cat

The following are a few factors to keep in mind when choosing the best CBD oil for your cat.

Quality

It is important to ensure that the CBD oil you choose is organic and is extracted using the CO2 extraction method. This is to make sure that the oils are of the finest quality and are free from harmful substances such as pesticides. Also, ensure the product is manufactured from pure CBD isolate, meaning it is free from THC.

Potency

The higher the CBD oil’s potency, the more CBD oil your pet will get per dosage.

Lab Tested: an effective CBD oil is usually lab-tested to ensure it is safe and high-quality. Always ensure the product you purchase is third-party tested to make sure your cat does not consume contaminated CBD oil.

Price

It is vital to know what your money is paying for; therefore, always choose the product that provides great value and is fairly priced.

CBD oil is typically more expensive than other types of pet supplements, but it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. When choosing a CBD oil for your cat, look for one that’s priced fairly and offers a good value for the money.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Yes. Hemp CBD oil for cats does not contain harmful ingredients and is designed to recommend dosage levels. However, always consult a vet before your cat is given any prescription drugs.

Since potencies differ depending on the product, always check the CBD amount and not the product’s volume. Dosage also depends on the intensity of the condition.

Many CBD oils for cats can be bought online or in specialty pet stores. Buying these products can be confusing, though specialty stores are better since there are professionals ready to help you and answer your questions.

There is a study [3] on how CBD oil can help in seizures for animals, and a report [4] shows that many pet parents have seen prominent results in controlling their pet’s seizures.

Yes. Research [5] shows that CBD has particular anti-inflammatory features and can slow degeneration. Since CBD helps with inflammation, the pet may experience better mobility, thus improving overall well-being.

CBD oil might not get rid of arthritis; however, it reduces the inflammation and pain associated with cats with arthritis, with little or no side effects.

It is essential to understand that THC can be harmful to pets; however, CBD is derived from commercial hemp and is legal and safe in all states. The main difference is that CBD provides all the advantages minus the THC; therefore, your cat will not be high; they will experience a subtle relaxation feeling.

Veterinarians are not legally permitted to recommend CBD for cats or dogs. This is primarily due to the fact that the FDA does not approve the use of CBD in cats and dogs.

Best CBD Oil for Cats with Reviews and Ratings, Plus Dosage Info for Anxiety, Cancer, and More

I’m always skeptical of fads, and rarely even bother researching them.

But the number of people I know who use CBD oil for their health – with reported improvements – convinced me that I should look into it, especially for a certain young kitty I know who struggles with extreme separation anxiety whenever I leave the house for even an hour.

If you’re anything like me, you want the whole breakdown on what this stuff is all about so you might want to check out my in-depth article on CBD oil, health benefits, downsides, and more.

For a quick run-down before getting into the reviews of my top five choices, however, here are the basics you need to know for choosing the right CBD oil for your cat.

Contents

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is short for cannabidiol, an oil that comes from the cannabis plant. CBD oil is made from the same technical plant, but not the same strain of cannabis that marijuana comes from.

See also  How To Tell Good CBD Oil

CBD-grade strains have low levels of THC – tetrahydrocannabinol – the aspects of cannabis that gives mammals that “high” feeling that pot gives. However, these strains do have CBD, which is one part of the hemp plant that offers the health benefits that ease symptoms of disease, pain, and illness.

CBD is not marijuana and does not cause psychoactive episodes.

CBD oils contain high concentrations of the extracts from hemp plants that are beneficial for therapeutic purposes. Cannabis has been used for millennia to treat a wide range of ailments including anxiety disorders and cancers.

A lot of people are confused about the differences between CBD and CBD hemp oil for cats.

Dr. Jim Carlson of Riverside Animal Clinic in McHenry, Illinois, tells us that:

“CBD is derived from the flowers of the hemp plant… Hemp comes mainly from the stem of the hemp plant… Hemp oil contains very few cannabinoids. There is also a product called hemp seed oil which is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant which do not contain CBD. CBD does not contain THC.”

CBD hemp oil has some of the same health benefits as CBD oil, but not all.

How We Chose the Best CBD Oil for Cats

What makes CBD oil beneficial, useful, safe, and healthy for cats? I asked several experts on the subject and then researched a variety of things on the topic myself. I learned the ins and outs of what CBD oil is and what makes it safe and useful.

So, when I decided it was time to find the best products available, I used that knowledge to search out the best options. I had some favorite brands in mind but sadly discovered that some of them did not meet my standards. Others that I had never heard of before came up in my searches.

I found reviews and favorites from other cat owners and experts and had a list of about 20 highly recommended options. I shaved this list down to only those that met all of my standards.

These standards include:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Naturally/food-grade processed
  • Certified organic
  • Full-spectrum CBD products
  • 0% THC
  • Third-party tested for potency, purity & honesty

From this list, I had these 5 options left that I could fully recommend.

Reviews of the Best CBD Oil for Cats

Here’s the list of what I’ve found – through hours of study, research, and expert interviews – to be the absolute 5 best CBD oil products for cats.

EDITOR’S CHOICE

#1. HolistaPet CBD Products for Pets

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Of the several options we’re recommending, the HolistaPet brand CBD products are simply the best.

They come in a variety of forms for giving to your cat, including tincture, treats, and capsules.

As you know, cats are darn particular about what and how they eat. Because of that, the variety of options from this incredible brand makes it easy to get your Tigger to consume the CBD he needs to feel better.

HolistaPet is a full-spectrum, no-nonsense option that works for the basic needs of any cat using CBD. It’s 0% THC – meaning absolutely no high kitties wandering around. It’s also 100% organic, meaning there are never any pesticides or unnatural ingredients or methods used to extract, produce, process, or package the HolistaPet products.

They never use any artificial additives or preservatives, and they’re third-party tested for potency. Plus, they offer free shipping for all of their orders, which is pretty darn awesome for us consumers.

You can buy the three types of products in either single packs or bulk once you know for sure which way your pal most prefers getting his CBD. Everything is natural and non-GMO, which is critical for the best possible CBD oil for cats’ arthritis, cancer, or any other condition.

Canna-Pet Capsules: Canna-Pet Advanced Small Pet

Overall Rating: 4.8 out of 5 stars

For another straight-up high-quality CBD product for cats, the Canna-Pet Advanced Small Pet capsules are a budget-friendly option.

They meet all our standards, though admittedly it can be a little hard to find all the info upon immediate searches. Because of this, I don’t love their page, but the products are solid, high-quality, lab-tested CBD options for your cat.

The capsules are manufactured in a cGMP compliant facility, meaning they’re safely manufactured and meet the proper business practices. They purposefully use these processes to deliver as many terpenes and flavonoids as possible in their CBD products.

They’re all-natural, non-GMO as well, which means I can feel confident recommending this budget-friendly option for folks ready to try out capsules.

The Canna-Pet CBD capsules for cats are a broad-spectrum source for your cats made with zero artificial ingredients. The Advanced Small Pet formula is designed specifically for small pets, including cats and toys to miniature dogs.

A nice little bonus with Canna-Pet is that they offer a lot of coupons, discounts, and sales year-round!

Savage CBD Spray for Cats

Overall Rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars

For a unique way to deliver CBD for your cats, try the Savage CBD spray. This delivery method is perfect for cats who are finicky and aren’t keen on CBD oil on their food.

The fine mist of the spray allows a lighter coating of the CBD onto the food, in contrast to the heavier concentration that tinctures leave.

So, I kind of love this CBD.

For the kitty who’s super persnickety, I’m confident this will help you get them taking CBD without a struggle. Savage CBD is a well-trusted brand, too, so you can feel confident in using this spray. It’s a high-quality, low-cost product.

Savage is transparent about their products, which you can read about in their lab results.

This spray is non-GMO, certified organic, vegan, all-natural, pesticide-free, and third-party tested.

It’s a full-spectrum spray that combines the goodness of coconut oil with CBD oil for a health powerhouse supplement for your cat.

It’s a simple, straight-forward, pleasant tasting, easy-to-use, all-natural product that’s going to help you get CBD to your cat.

Joy Organics CBD Oil Tincture for Pets

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

  • All-natural: Yes
  • Percentage of THC: 0%
  • Certified Organic: Yes
  • Third-Party testing: Yes
  • Naturally extracted: food-grade ethanol, No residual solvents
  • Full-spectrum CBD: Yes
  • Extra supplements: grapeseed oil

Joy Organics is a family-owned local business that practices high standards with respect for people, animals, and the environment. Joy Organics was founded by Joy Smith, someone who struggled with chronic ailments.

Her vision for these awesome products carries over into the Joy Organics pet line as well, which makes them one of the best options available.

First off, Joy Organics is 100% THC-free. That means your cat runs zero risks of getting loopy on this health supplement. The products are high-quality, produced by non-GMO, all organic plants, using a food-grade extraction process, making it safe and healthy for Fluffy to take.

Joy Organics includes organically grown Phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil, hemp seed oil, and grapeseed oil for a balanced approach to providing the various components your pet needs in a CBD oil. Everything is organic and produced in the U.S.A. at a premium grade, food-grade level, meaning it’s healthy and safe for your cat.

The company uses a seven-step process to guarantee full safety and health regulations are met, ensuring that you get the best possible CBD oil for cats available. And they are third-party tested, which you can verify on their website.

Givol Peaceful Buddy

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

  • All-natural: Yes
  • Percentage of THC: 0%
  • Certified Organic: Yes
  • Third-Party testing: Yes
  • Naturally extracted: Yes
  • Full-spectrum CBD: Yes
  • Extra supplements: chamomile, frankincense oil

The Peaceful Buddy formula from Givol is a unique CBD option with additional infusions that target specific issues including separation anxiety, joint pain, and stress. That means this may be especially great for older cats – or Lady Stardust who freaks out whenever her pets leave for even an hour!

Givol offers all-natural, naturally extracted ingredients in their CBD for cats, so I’m happy to recommend them, especially in this particular product that has valuable additional supplements.

It contains zero THC, meaning no high for Kitty Couric, and is a full spectrum choice which means it has the additional benefits of other parts of the hemp plant for cannabinoids like CBG and terpenes.

Peaceful Buddy also infuses in some powerful herbal supplements to help Kitty rest and relax better.

Chamomile is something many of us are familiar with in tea form. It’s a great beverage for winding down with at night before sleep. But there are other benefits that chamomile offers, including:

  • Help with stomach ailments
  • Mild sedative to calm nerves
  • Heartburn relief
  • Relieve vomiting
  • Relieve nausea
  • Prevent or treat diarrhea
  • Ease mouth sores
  • Fight skin infections
  • Fight insomnia
  • Relieve anxiety & stress
  • Ease hemorrhoids
  • Treat skin irritation
  • Wound healing

Some of these benefits are through a topical application so you may want to use this CBD product for skin irritations, for example.

Frankincense is the other supplement added. Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what good this particular oil would offer, so I started studying. I discovered that frankincense was so valuable in ancient times because of the incredible healing powers it holds. Frankincense can help with any of the following issues:

  • Helps reduce pain & inflammation
  • Aids sleep
  • Reduce stress & negative emotions
  • Boost immune system
  • Prevent illnesses
  • Antibacterial
  • Fight cancer
  • Helps with Chemotherapy side effects
  • Heals skin
  • Helps balance hormones
  • Improves memory
  • Eases digestion

All-in-all, this is a great product for any kitty who has these issues. However, for a cat not needing sedative properties, I would not recommend it, which is why it’s lower in the rankings. It is not as “all-purpose” as other options.

Note: I believe this to be the best CBD oil for cats’ aggression.

Does CBD Oil Contain THC?

The very first thing I’d like to reiterate here is that high-quality CBD oil has zero THC in it.

CBD is a bit like chamomile or catnip which provides a mild sedative-like effect for cats. And, like both of those, CBD cannot get Garfield high.

There is zero THC in good-quality CBD, and therefore there is no “high.”

Cheap and impure brands of CBD oil will have THC, so be sure to always avoid these. While your cat may have anxiety and stress issues, she doesn’t need a psychoactive episode.

What is CBD Oil Good For?

Dr. Jennifer Coates, DVM, and advisor to Pet Life Today told me in an interview that:

“CBD shows promise for treating inflammatory conditions, like osteoarthritis, as well as for anxiety, seizures, pain, and nausea.”

Dr. Jeremy Riggle, Chief Science Officer for Mary’s Whole Pet elaborated slightly in another interview that:

“Cats have their own endocannabinoid system so they can benefit from CBD oil much the same way humans do. Specific ailments include, but are not limited to: loss of appetite, anxiety, stress, inflammation … arthritis, etc.”

All of this means that CBD oil for cats works much the way it does for humans. The best CBD oil for cats with kidney disease or the best CBD oil for cats with cancer will have a similar effect on cats that the high-quality stuff does for human patients with the same ailments and diseases.

Other ailments that CBD can directly help with include:

  • Seizures
  • Aggression
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Inflammation
  • Pancreatitis

CBD oil generally helps with overall health improvement as well, which is why many folks give their cats low dosages on the regular, even if Fluffy doesn’t have one of the mentioned conditions.

What is the Right CBD Oil Dosage for Cats?

Several experts in the realm of CBD and pets have noted that the correct dosage is one of the most important aspects of giving your cat CBD oil. For example, Dr. Gary Richter, Medical Director of Holistic Veterinary Care in Oakland and Veterinary Health Expert with Rover.com, said that paying close attention to dosage is important because you don’t want to overdose your cat.

Too low a dosage, however, will render it ineffective. It’s harder to underdose, though, unless you’re using an inferior product that contains more additives and fillers than actual CBD oil.

There’s honestly not much research on the subject of CBD and cats – at least not yet – so there’s no distinctive answer that can be given across the board.

However, most companies provide a recommended number of drops per dose based on body weight.

The general understanding, thus far, is that doses between 0.1 and 0.5 milligrams per kilogram of weight of the cat are probably the best range.

It’s recommended that you start at the lower end of the spectrum and work up to higher doses, though, to make sure your cat doesn’t have an adverse reaction to CBD. It’s always best to start low and increase the dose based on the desired outcome,” Dr. Riggle notes.

It’s also possible that your cat won’t show any marked improvements or responses to CBD either, so, again, it’s best to start with lower doses to avoid waste.

Be consistent as you test CBD for your cat, as well. This will give you a clearer picture of how well Fluffy’s doing – or not doing – based on the dose and frequency.

The Best CBD Oil for Cats Aren’t Hard to Find Now

Now that you know what kind of CBD oil to look for, and which are the best CBD oil for cats with anxiety, the best CBD oil for cats’ seizures, and more, you shouldn’t have any issue purchasing some today.

I truly believe these five options I’ve provided are the best in the market and are the most likely to help your cat’s mental and physical health. But don’t just take my word for it. Do the research and study the materials for yourself. Your cat’s health is way too important to mess around with.

This is a wonderful, informative post! I have often been questioned about whether hemp products I use such as hemp seed oil and hemp milk are safe and how they relate to the marijuana plant. I never knew the answer to these questions except to say that they are a different part of the plant that doesn’t contain THC. Now I truly understand the difference! Thank you

CBD Oil for Cats

Our new Feline formula blends the best premium NASC certified US-grown hemp extract with the highest quality sardine, pollock, and plant-based oils added in the perfect ratios, optimizing the long-term effects of cannabinoids like CBD.

Spring/Summer 2022 Update – we’re now using AstaReal ® astaxanthin in this product. It’s the most sustainable and high-quality astaxanthin we’ve been able to find and we’re so excited that we can now include it in this formula. Heads up! It colors every oil batch a vibrant red. How to Use

Each full dropper (1ml) of this oil contains 5mg of CBD.

Some pets will lap up oil directly, others prefer it mixed with a bit of their favorite food. For best results, give CBD to your pet before meals or on a relatively empty stomach. Can be used for daily support, or as-needed.

How much CBD should I give my cat?
If you’ve never used CBD with your cat before, start with 3mg of CBD for every 10 lbs of pet weight.

Some experimentation to find the right serving size for your cat is normal. For an in-depth guide, to CBD for your pet click here

Does this work for cats and dogs?
Yes! This formula is suitable for both dogs and cats.
